Owahwa-Esaba Weaves

During the 3rd week of June, the MitiMeth team travelled to Owahwa, Delta State to train youth on Water Hyacinth Crafts. The training was sponsored by the Wetland Institute for Training Services and TreasureLakes Ltd. We quickly learned that the various waterbodies in Owahwa and Esaba were infested with other types of invasive aquatic weeds apart from Water Hyacinth! The training was held in the Community Centre and on the first day we had close to 50 people show up! The numbers eventually dwindled down to about half. The trainees were enthusiastic and learned the art of making rope and planing bamboo during the 4 day training.
